What VocalMetric can and can't do

VocalMetric listens to a few seconds of your voice and gives you an AI guess at whether you sound sober or under the influence. It is an early, experimental project, for entertainment and self-awareness only. Today's models learned from speech recorded sober and after cannabis use, so they know nothing yet about alcohol or other substances. Support for alcohol is in development.

It is not a medical device, breathalyzer, legal test or safety system, and its results can be wrong. Never use it to decide whether you or anyone else can drive, work or do anything where safety matters.

Getting a good recording

  • Talk normally for at least 2 seconds; 4 or more works best. Recording stops by itself after 7 seconds.
  • Find a reasonably quiet place and talk the way you normally would.
  • If a recording is too short, too quiet, clipped or mostly silent, the result says so and asks you to record again.
  • Inconclusive means the models didn't agree enough to call it. It's an honest answer, not an error.

Subscriptions and refunds

  • Bought Pro in the iPhone app? Apple handles the billing. To cancel or switch plans, open your iPhone's Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or tap Manage subscription in the app's Settings. Refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Bought Pro on vocalmetric.com? Go to Settings → Billing → Manage subscription to cancel, switch plans or update your card. If Pro isn't for you, email us within 7 days of your first Pro payment and we'll refund it in full.
  • Pro works everywhere: log in with the same account on the website or in the app.
  • New iPhone, or Pro not showing? In the app, open the Pro screen and tap Restore Purchases, using the Apple Account you subscribed with.

Your account

  • Forgot your password? Use Forgot password. If you signed up with Google or Apple, log in with that button instead; there's no password to reset.
  • Change your email address: email us from your current address.
  • Delete your recordings and results anytime in Settings. Recordings are also deleted automatically 30 days after each check, unless you turned on training.
  • Delete your account in Settings, on the website or in the app. This removes your account, recordings and results, and cancels a website subscription. An App Store subscription is billed by Apple, so cancel it in your iPhone's Settings first.
